This Saturday, 13rd November 2010, Balinese celebrates one holy ceremony which is aimed for good product and crop. It is Tumpek Ngatag or Tumpek Uduh, the day when Balinese Hindu holds a ritual ceremony for plantations. This holy day is devoted to God in the manifestation as ‘Sanghyang Sangkara’, the God of food-plants and vegetation. Balinese believe that he is the God that taking care of all plantations on earth, the on ethat causing plants to grow, leaved, flowering, and bear fruit. On this day, Balinese prays for good product and crop, and celebrated at farm and plantation. Besides, this is also the day when Balinese show their grateful for plantations and livestock that always fulfilling the human’s life, and came as the realization that human beings can never live without them. But not all of plantations are given offerings. It is only the ones that useful for human life. On the other hand, Timpek ngatag is a very great way to preserve plantations; moreover Balinese hold this day also to pray that bad things will not arise. Tumpek Ngatag enables Balinese consciously or not, to preserve plantations, because by this, it will avoid Bali from danger such as flood, landslide, and other on which human being rely on plantations to avoid the disaster. That is why Balinese always worship the elements of nature, because its power and its existence are absolute.
Tumpek ngatag on Balinese calendar falls on Saniscara Kliwon Wariga. This tumpek ngatag also can be said as the implementation of the Hindu great concept the ‘Tri Hita Karana’, which teaches Balinese to take care of the environment, and showing respect, not only to God and fellows, but also to what exists in the surrounding environment. Tumpek Ngatag is held as preparation to welcome the celebration of Galungan day, and by Tumpek ngatag, Balinese wishes that plantations, especially fruit, will grow fertile, so it can be used as offerings on Galungan day. Tumpek Ngatag is focused to be held at gardens, rice fields, and plantations.
