Balinese textile is more than a piece of cloth but it is also representing their culture, and religion exclusivity. In royal  family shrines, especially the woman, always view each other to show the most beautiful creations, and some believe that it is not only wrapped the body but it’s protect from the malevolent influences. Decoration of Balinese textile is best expressed in head, chest,skirt, and cloth.

1. Endek

Endek is tie-dyed woven textiles, still using hand operated looms in the process of weft-ikat method.  Almost Balinese has endek, because it is versatile, can be worn on both daily use or ceremonial purpose. Some says that endek is made with natural ingredients and has very unique design, it takes monthly just to finish one design for endek. Design of endek usually diamond and zigzagging pattern.

You can find endek in : Kumbasari traditional market in Denpasar, Sukawati Traditional market in Gianyar and Semarapura Traditional market in Klungkung.

2.Songket

Songket is very famous in Bali, it is brocaded silk with silver and gold thread with complex motif of birds, butterflies, flower, and usually used for tooth filling and wedding ceremonies in Bali. you can find in Kumbasari, and Sukawati traditional market

3.Kain Prada

Almost same like songket, it is also made by gold and silver thread, lustrous fabric woven of cotton or silk. Patterns usually lotus blossoms, with swastikas as decoration for the border.

4. Gringsing

I can say that this is the maestro of Bali, very rarest weaving technique practices, and origin from Tenganan village Karangasem in Bali. Grinsing is well known as flame cloth and in this elaborate dyeing process both the warp and weft threads are carefully bound before dyeing. This creates numerous patterns that once finished they seemingly fit together perfectly and harmoniously. There are not many women left to practice this weaving even in this generation. It takes almost three days to finish geringsing.When you visit Tenganan village, you could look the weaving process, with a fee.
