The - Best City in Asia

After successfully held on 2007 and 2008, Gempita Gianyar again will be held this year in Ubud, from 2 – 3 July 2010. This year Gempita Gianyar is as an appreciation and celebration towards the achievement for Ubud which is awarded as “The Best City in Asia” by Conde Nast, a prestigious tourism publication in the U.S. This art and cultural festival is planned to be the biggest ever annual festival in Gianyar, and will present series of art and cultural performances, and fashion. There are four main programs of Gempita Gianyar Festival;

1. Tri Hita Karana Performances. Tri Hita Karana means a harmonious relation between human and God, the nature, and the other human being. As the opening program, this performance will present Dewa Bujana as the music director, who will have collaboration with Indonesian famous singer Gita Gutawa, Ayu Laksmi and with Balinese dance maestro Ketut Rina and Oka Dalam. Besides, this performance will also support by Jay Subyakto as the Art Director, and more than 150 dancers will participate in the show. This will be performed on 2 July at Lapangan Astina Ubud, at 9 PM.

2. Ubud Street Bash Parade. This is a cultural and fashion carnival which is held on the main street of Ubud, and for the first time ever held in Ubud. More than 1000 people will take part in the parade which the parade will be filled with ogoh-ogoh and Balinese dances parade by seven districts in Gianyar Regency. Besides, this parade also will perform fashion show which will be followed by 25 famous designers. Ubud Street Bash is planned to be the biggest ever ‘Woven Fabric Party in East Indonesia’. This parade will be held on 3 July at 4 PM, start from Puri Ubud (Ubud Palace) and finish at Astina field.

3. Peliatan Royal Heritage Dinner. This is a special program for special guest of Gempita Gianyar Festival 2010. Special and important guests will be served with traditional Balinese dinner, and set up in Bali and Gianyar Royal’s tradition. This is as one of the way of Gempita Gianyar festival in conserving the Gianyar Royal tradition. This program will also performing classical Balinese dance.

4. Youth Art Camp. This program is held as the commitment of Gempita Gianyar festival in the regeneration of art and culture conservation. This program will be followed by students from 15 – 18 years old in Gianyar, and for five days they will participate in summer art camp. There, those students will be taught about Balinese art, culture and traditional art. This will be held on 30 June to 4 July, and these students also planned to take part in the first program, the Tri Hita Karana Performances.
