Introducing the Executive Chef of the Elysian’ Rush Bamboo & Bar
NIZAR ACHMAD BACKGROUNDER | One of the biggest coups for the Elysian is the appointment of Indonesian born; long term Swedish resident, 35 year old, Executive Chef, Nizar Achmad who will head the kitchen, restaurant and bar of the Elysian’ Rush Bamboo & Bar.
Nizar’s love affair with all things good in food and wine has taken him to all corners of the globe including Australia, New Zealand and Stockholm where he lived for 14yrs before returning to his homeland, Indonesia.
Originally from Surabaya, Nizar says his food concepts are “green fusion with an organic focus, seasonal, back to basics, heartfelt and passionate” all which draw from his Indonesian heritage with a little bit of fun and modern taste kicks tossed in.
This can be seen in Nizar’s signature Oyster “Fines De Java” creation with a selection of tempting condiments to suit individual tastes such as Kiwi Crush, Thyme Ginger Chili, Caviar, and Matsuhisa dressing.
Nizar cooked for the 2008 Nobel Prize Dinner held at City Hall Stockholm as well as at the Michelen Star restaurant Feichmaker in Norway. One of his own restaurants in Sweden, Carpe Diem where Tiger Woods once dined, earned him one of the Top Five Restaurants in Sweden (2nd place) and his Lugnet Bar & Restaurant saw Crown Princess Victoria as a regular diner
Nizar has had a colorful life and is well known as Sweden’s ‘major league party animal’, especially after his stint in one of Sweden’s most exclusive clubs, Berns Salonger where international celebrities such as Justin Timberlake, PINK, Busta Rhymes and Britney Spears were frequent visitors.
He also hosted a video blog Cool Stockholm, where he cooked and interviewed Swedish film stars to some comedic acclaim. Nizar has worked as a fashion stylist and claims he is a fantastic dancer having taught Funk & Hip Hop most of his life. He has a penchant for shopping in his spare time, loves a good Otis Redding or Marvin Gaye album and a bottle, or several, of red wine.
Nizar brings together a unique partnership and exciting new chapter in dining for the Elysian that leaps into another dimension with modern and exciting food and wine concepts that he has garnered from his time spent in Sweden. He hopes to install a Dumpling & Sashimi Bar with a dedicated Barman to pair each dish to a drink, and is passionate about making the restaurant and bar a hip destination to dine and drink at.
THE ELYSIAN DIGS DEEP FOR A BETTER PARADISE
25 November 2009 – As part of an environmental awareness campaign initiated in September of this year, the Elysian Villas in Seminyak have for the second time this November shown their commitment and have dug deep to plant Mangrove plants for a better paradise in Bali.
More than 30 staff from the Elysian gathered on Serangan harbour foreshores, north of Sakenan Temple, in a joint effort to plant over 1000 mangrove plants bought from Mangrove Forest Reserve Bureau (Balai Pengelolaan Hutan Mangrove) with the aim of improving the stability of the existing forest and the prevention of soil erosion caused by heavy rains and ocean currents.
“Mangrove forests are fundemental to the oceans food chains and are key breeding areas for a great many sea creatures. The preservation and care of these vital forests is a project that the Elysian has not only implemented but plans to continue with its efforts every 6 months”, says Elysian General Manager, I Gusti Putu Redita.
The event became not only a environmental contribution, but a great team building exercise and an enjoyable day for the hard toiling members of the Elysian team.
According to I Gusti Putu Redita, he is determined that his team at the Elysian lead by example when it comes to the care and upkeep of Bali’s environment and show their committment to conservation and preservation of the enviroment.
