Candi sukuh (sukuh temple) has a trapezium shape not like the other temple or candi. Analogous,  It looks like structure of maya in Mexico, or Inca in Peru. This temple is controversial, because many statues that has sexual symbolist. Candi Sukuh is located in slope of Mountain Lawu, Sukuh village, Ngargoyos district, Karanganyar regency,middle of Java. It is about 20 Km from Karanganyar city, and 36 kilometers from Surakarta city.

Site of Candi sukuh founded by great Britain in land of Java at 1815 by Johnson, Surakarta resident. On that time Johnson serve a duty from Thomas Stanford Raffles to fulfill data to support his book, History of Java. After great of Britain over, on 1842 Van Der Vlis, dutch citizen doing some research. Then on 1928, the restoration begin.

Candi Sukuh built on 3 steps, where in back side getting higher. On the first terrace there is first entrance. In this entrance, there is candrasangkala in Jva language means “Gigantic entrance will destroy humans”, these words has meanings 9,5,3, and 1 if  we read upside down, means a year, 1953 year of saka.

in ground based of this entrance, there is a relief of phallus facing vagina, this relief has deep meaning. In Hinduism, this is symbolist of God Siwa with his wife (parwati). This relief represent of fertility, this relief voluntary put in front with a meaning that all persons that coming in already cleaned up by “suwuk”

In second terrace, there is a entrance with 2 guardian statues but it already not recognized yet.

Right in front of  main temple there is a square pot, and this is where they put offerings, incense, incense stick, and still until now.

In the south of stone path, there is a fragment stone based on Pandawa story, in this story tells about 5 pandawa knight success bring one of angel that been cursed.
